Pen Pals.......

When I was sixteen, I joined the Gene Autry Friendship Club.  In the little newsletter, was a list of names asking for pen pals.  I live in upstate New York, and thought it might be interesting to hear from someone out west, so I picked the name Henry Wasson from Elk Springs, Colorado.

Henry and his brother G R were old time cowboys in their seventies, I have saved all the letters, along with the pictures Henry sent.  These old-timers sounded quite knowledgeable from a lifetime of ranch and outdoor living.  I would write and tell them about horses I was training, and they would write back with a bit of friendly wisdom and helpful advice. I wrote to both of them for quite a few years.

Their letters are real treasures, for they wrote about their earlier days on a ranch, and all the misspelled words made their letters even more unique.
